U/E CPP expresses concern about court case

The Upper East Regional Steering Committee of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has expressed concern about the action of two members of the party for dragging the party to court.

It said it was very surprising and disturbing that when the  party was about preparing for  its  National Delegates’ Congress on  March 28 in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region such development should be happening.

The committee condemned the action of the two members of the party and asked them to withdraw the case from court for amicable settlement.

In a press release issued by the Regional Secretary of the party, Benjamin Anafo and copied to the Ghanaian Times here yesterday, it said,  “We have learnt with utter surprise and dismay an action brought against the party by two members of the party, Bright Akwetey, the Chairman of the legal committee of the party and Yaw Asamoah,  the former Central Regional Chairman of the party.

“We are not only surprised at their action, but we are in utter shock as to the motive as well as the identity of the individuals involved especially Mr Akwetey who should know better at a critical moment the party needs peace, unity, stability, harmony, assistance and support from every member of the party to help plan effectively and efficiently towards our delegates’ conference and not rancour, bickering and acrimony.

“There’s the need for the two stalwart members of our party to rescind their decision by withdrawing the case from the court and to use the laid-down channels in resolving their grievances to make the party attractive for the new generation of voters.

“We cannot afford to conduct our congress on a different date apart from the stipulated date because we have only 10 months to the general election and we need to get our flagbearer, running mate and national executives to ensure tranquility within our rank and file,” the release said.
