The Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA), has presented items worth Ghc200, 000 to six police commands under its jurisdiction to assist in addressing security challenges in the area.
The items which included Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV), desktop computers, printers, stabilisers, office furniture, were presented to the Community Two, Community 18, Sakumono, Baatsonaa and Adjei Kojo District Police Commands as well as the Baatsonaa Divisional Police Command.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mrs Adwoa Amoako, disclosed these here yesterday at the “meet the press” session and reiterated that the security of the Municipality was of utmost concern to the Assembly because a community cannot develop without peaceful and secured environment
Mrs Amoako said for the Assembly to meet its financial commitments in improving the infrastructural development, it had intensified efforts to meet targets set in the 2019 revenue budget through the implementation of appropriate revenue mobilisation strategies.
The strategies, he said, would include outsourcing property rates collection, revenue mobilisation taskforce, monitoring of revenue mobilisation at all levels as well as data collection and updating.
She mentioned application of modern technology for revenue collection, public education on rates and fees payment, enforcement of bye- laws and investing part of the Internally Generated Funds (IGF) on social amenities for the citizens as some of the areas the assembly would use to raise revenue
The Municipal Chief Executive revealed that the revenue performance as at October 30, 2019, was approximately Ghc17, 531, 000 which included Internally Generated Funds (IGF) and grants, District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) and District Development Facility (DDF), totaling Ghc6, 316 000.
On the IGF, she said the Assembly was able to realise Ghc4, 178, 871.00 representing 42. 43 per cent while Ghc2, 136, 792.24 was received as Grants.
Mrs Amoako encouraged residents to have confidence in the Assembly to effectively carry out the needed infrastructural development for the area and called on them to also honour their financial obligations to the Assembly to facilitate their work.
