With the advent of technology and communication advancements, Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has challenged Ghanaians to be globally competitive rather than being champions of mediocrity.
He said a country could be competitive when the young ones use their requisite skills and knowledge profitably.
Dr Adutwum said this at a grand durbar of the annual Ohum Festival at Berekuso in the Akwapim South Municipal District of the Eastern Region.
The festival which was celebrated under the theme, ‘Education the key to development’ was used to inaugurate a newly created Twafoman Senior High School(SHS) for the people of Berekuso.
The school which was built by the chief of Berekuso, Odeefoo Oteng Korankye II, was to help persons who could not have the opportunity to be enrolled in the SHS in the previous year to have the opportunity to enrol in the newly-created Twafoman SHS.
Dr Adutum underscored the need for every Ghanaian to take education as a priority in order to bring development to the country.
He said the Akufo-Addo government brought free SHS to enable every Ghanaian child to be enrolled in this system to acquire some level of knowledge.
He charged Ghanaians to stop “touting our educational system as being better than Senegal, Gambia, Sierra Leone, and rather compete with the likes of Singapore, Finland and the USA”.
This he said would bring development and move the country forward.
He commended the chief for such an effort and promised the government’s support to enhancing quality education.
The Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu ,who was also invited to grace the occasion appealed to parents to take active interest in the education of their wards to enable them grow and become useful citizens.
The Member of Parliament for Akuapem South Constituency, Osei Bonsu Amoah also assured government’s commitment to fixing the deplorable state of the Berekuso roads.
The chief of Berekuso, Oteng Korankye II, urged Ghanaians to be guided by the unity of purpose of the opposition and the government in carrying out the upcoming elections devoid of anarchy.
