Tunisia striker and Captain Youssef Msakni believes it would be difficult to stop them if they beat Burkina Faso in this Saturday’s quarterfinal match.
The 31-year-old striker from Al Arabi in Qatar, led by example on January 23 when he scored Tunisia’s goal in their 1-0 last-16 victory over Nigeria, in Garoua.
The Carthage Eagles now play Burkina Faso in the quarterfinals on January 29, hoping to avenge their 2-0 loss they sustained at the same stage of the 2017 edition.
“We will spare no effort to strengthen our chances in this competition as we have always done,” Msakni told Le Temps.
“The good thing is we have never doubted our abilities and that we proved against Nigeria.
“Now, we should stay focused to get past Burkina Faso in the next round. We have to impose our way of playing, because when we manage to do that, no team in Africa can stop us.”
The 2004 champions made an unconvincing start in Cameroon after qualifying as one of the four, best third placed sides on three points after losing two Group F games.
Tunisia are going into Saturday’s last eight fixture in search of a second straight AFCON semifinal appearance.
Meanwhile, former Tottenham Hotspur star Emmanuel Adebayor feels that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang does not have a way back into the current Arsenal FC side.
The last time the Gabon captain played for the Gunners was on December 6 as came on as a substitute in the team’s 2-1 defeat to Everton in a Premier League clash at Goodison Park.
Aubameyang was then accused of a breach of discipline by manager Mikel Arteta and was further stripped of the club’s captaincy.
Former Togo captain Adebayor, who was on the books of Arsenal between 2006 and 2009, feels pity for Aubameyang and he believes the London giants will not forgive the African star.
“I know he’s going through a lot because that’s Arsenal for you,” Adebayor said The Metro.
“They never knew how to forgive, so I know he went through a lot. “He’s a fantastic player, I wish him all the best – I’ve sent him a message already. We just want him to bounce back.
