Trump, Obama hail Woods … after winning Masters in stunning style

DONALD Trump, Barack Obama, Serena Williams and Wayne Rooney were among the big names to pay tribute to Tiger Woods’ incredible win at the Masters.

Woods sealed a miraculous career comeback picking up his fifth green jacket in Augusta — and 15th major, meaning he can continue his quest to topple Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18.

Having battled back from personal demons, back injuries and uncertainty over his career — the 43-year-old won his first major since a 2008 US Open triumph.

Reacting to the achievement included President Trump, who has previously played with the golf icon.

Trump tweeted: “Watching final hole of @TheMasters. @TigerWoods is looking GREAT!

“Congratulations to @TigerWoods., a truly Great Champion!”

The President then posted a second tweet, saying: “Love people who are great under pressure. What a fantastic life comeback for a really great guy!”

Former US President Barack Obama, who Trump replaced in 2016, also congratulated Woods on his triumphant win and career turnaround.

Obama tweeted: “Congratulations, Tiger! To come back and win the Masters after all the highs and lows is a testament to excellence, grit, and determination.”

Eagle-eyed fans would have spotted American Olympic hero Michael Phelps behind the tee on the 16th, where Woods made one of his shots of the tournament.

Phelps, 33, was stood in a VIP slot next to an overly-excited woman in a loud top, and brilliantly framed right next to Tiger in the TV replays.

Woods birdied the 15th and 16th to move to 14 under and opened a two-shot lead at the in Augusta as fans began to believe the memorable victory was on the cards.

Wearing his traditional red shirt, Woods sealed the win with a deft put on the 18th hole as the celebrations rang out.

The win comes 22 years after he first received the green jacket at the 1997 Masters and just two-years after he plummeted to 1,199th in the world during his darkest days. – SunSport
