‘Translate programmes’ benefits into pockets of citizenry’

A Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), Dr Lord Mensah, has observed that although the Presidenthas implemented a number of good policies, social interventions and pro-poor programmes in his first term, the government has been unable to translate the benefits into the pockets of the citizenry.

.Dr Mensah lamented that the citizenry, who are supposed to feel the economy, did not, hence the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost many votes in the 2020 elections, saying, “that is clearly what we saw in the elections where the government lost a lot of votes compared to the votes they got in the 2016 general election.

“It tells us that the indicators were looking good but the translation into the pocket of the people was a problem and a challenge, so we should look at the government as a project in the first years and then you progress, based on it,” Dr Mensah suggested.

In President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s State of the Nation Address on Tuesday, he accounted to the citizenry in the sectors of health, education, economy, governance and infrastructure amongst others.

To him, the indices his government had recorded were better than he met them in 2017, when he took the mantle of leadership and as such could say he had fulfilled most of its campaign promises and his new mandate was to consolidate the gains. -3news.com
