Trail Blazers, a local NGO, has donated packed food items worth GH₵ 3,000 to Street Girls Aid (S.Aid) to support their yelutide celebration.
The S.Aid operates early childhood care and development centres for street children aged eight and above at Katamanto and Kinbu in the Accra Central Business District.
Mrs Engmann, the Director of S.Aid, said the two centres provided the children with a safe space to play and also receive education while building on other skills relevant for primary school.
Mrs Engmann said the centres also supported girls and young mothers to improve their quality of life through vocational training in pastry making, dressmaking, hairdressing and other skills.
“We do not wait for the children to come to us but rather we go to them on the streets and the slums to work with them at their pace and on their terms to make a change in their lives”, she said.
She said their work on the street was to establish informal relationship with the children, provide life skills and build the confidence of young parents which needed a lot of financial resources.
Mrs Engmann asked corporate bodies and philanthropic individuals to support the work of the centres to enable them reach out to more of the street children and their mothers.
Ms Fifty Tekyi, the Executive Director of Trail Blazers, said having learnt of the centres’ good works, they decided to partner them and support them every now and then.
She appealed to other organisations to come to the aid of the centres with cash or logistics to reach out to more people.
