Trader, others attacked by gang appeal to IGP for justice

A Gang numbering more than 20 last Friday allegedly attacked a trader at Tiptoe Lane, at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, after refusing to accept a camera he had sold to a customer.

The customer, popularly known as Teju, mobilised some people to attack the trader, Mr Kweku Asante, and his workers at his shop at Kwame Nkrumah circle.

He appealed to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare, to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book, for justice to prevail.

Mr Asante, who narrated his ordeal to the Ghanaian Times, said, Teju bought a camera at a cost of GH¢ 3,500 from him and he issued a receipt with terms and conditions applied embossed.

Mr Asante said Teju returned the camera to him because the person whom he bought the camera for did not accept it, adding that he (Mr Asante) explained to the buyer that items bought were not refundable unless they were faulty.

He said, Teju who was not satisfied with the explanation called the assailants to assault him and his workers.

Mr Asante said he called personnel of Tesano Police Command to deal with the situation, and even when the police arrived, it did not deter the assailants, who kept attacking and brutalising him and his workers.

He said the police eventually restored calm to the area, but could not arrest any of the assailants.

Mr Asante said rather the police arrested him, two workers and the customer and took them to Accra Regional Police station where they were all detained.

Mr Asante said Teju was later released leaving him and his workers, adding that the police asked them to refund the customer’s money before they could be released.

Mr Asante said he refunded the money to the customer before he and his workers were granted bail.
