Times Sports Journalist Vigah presents copies of ‘Sparkles and Shambles’ to U.S Embassy

Multiple award winning journalist of the Ghanaian Times, Mr John Kwabena Vigah on Thursday, donated two copies of ‘Sparkles and Shambles of the World Cup-Brazil 2014’ to the United States (U.S) Embassy in Accra.

Mr Vigah donated the books to Mr.Kevin J. Brosnahan, the Press Attaché at the Embassy when Mr Brosnahan paid a courtesy call on Mr David Agbenu, the Editor of the Ghanaian Times, the flagship newspaper of the New Times Corporation (NTC).

‘Sparkles and Shambles’, authored by Mr Vigah, chronicles Ghana Black Stars’ performance in Brazil where the team suffered a first round exit.

Interestingly, it was the first time the USA team beat the Black Stars, having lost twice against the Black Stars in 2006 and 2010.

In an interview with the Times Sports, Mr Vigah, a member of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA), the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) and the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) said “I planned to donate a copy of the book to the U.S Embassy but didn’t have the opportunity to do so until now.”

He continued “Don’t forget the U.S national team broke the stranglehold Ghana held over them at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil which the book duly carried and thought the U.S. Embassy deserved to have a copy.”

He said he was happy Mr Brosnahan was at the 2014 World Cup and that Mr Brosnahan would be fascinated by the things he finds in the book.

For his part, Mr Brosnahan expressed his profound gratitude to Mr Vigah, adding that he (Brosnahan) was in Brazil in 2014.

The U.S. Embassy Press Attaché recalled how the Germany national team made mincemeat of Brazil in a 7-1 thriller.

‘Sparkles and Shambles’ is the second book authored by Mr Vigah whose first book was on Sports Journalism.

Mr Vigah is a household name in the sports community in Ghana and beyond.

As a wordsmith, Mr. Vigah’s pieces and incisive articles on sports make readers, especially sports enthusiasts fall in love with sports.

Apart from sports, Mr Vigah’s passion for in-depth journalism has earned him the Best Investigative Journalist award in 2016 in addition to seven GJA sports awards and two features.
