Thrills at Greater Accra wrestling championship held

This year’s Greater Accra Wrestling Championship came off at the Bukom Park in Accra on Saturday with over 80 wrestlers in attendance.

Organized by the interim Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Ghana Wrestling Association, NiiAyitey, the event was aimed at providing a platform for wrestlers from Accra and Tema to battle for glory in various categories.

At the end of intense competition, Richard Nyamador won gold in the 79kg event with MamuduAwudu and Adjei Abraham settling for silver and bronze, respectively.

In the 70kg, Mohammed Sando came out tops while the silver and bronze medals went to ZukaleNala and Daniel Acheampong in that order.

Fred Kudzete and Jerry Quansah won gold and silver in the 62kg category respectively while MamuduNemeta took gold in the 86kg category with John Dekagbe and Jonathan Euro clinching silver and bronze, respectively.

In a very tight 74kg event, Isaac Commey emerged the gold winner while Jonathan Lamptey and Edmund Akator settled for silver and bronze in that order.

FuseiniIsah won gold in the +100kg event while his contender, Maxwell Amekudzi took home the silver medal.

Speaking after the event, President of the Ghana Wrestling Association(GWA), Mr Norbert Amefu praised the wrestlers for their show of strength and resilience.

He said, they would organise other championships in the year to keep athletes active for international competitions.
