Tema General Hospital to re-open mortuary facility this year

The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) plans to operationalise the new mortuary at the Tema General Hospital this year.

It has, therefore, started a process to supply and install equipment in the new mortuary while a section of the building is also being expanded in view of the expected activities.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE),  Mr Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La, announced this at the second ordinary general meeting of the 7th Assembly here, Tuesday.

He listed other priority projects the assembly intends to pursue as the construction of fence wall for TMA Twedaase JHS, Akodzo JHS, Community 4 Primary school,  Community 4 Republic Road Basic School and the construction of a divisional police headquarters at Tema Newtown.

On revenue mobilisation, Mr Anang-La said as at June this year,  the Assembly bagged GH¢16,687,694.99 (20 per cent)out of a target of GH¢83,317,012.47 saying,  the target was  made up of GH¢32,256,469.76 as Internally Generated Fund (IGF) while the grant component was  GH51, 060,542.71.

He noted that though the assembly realised GH¢10,432,183.96 being 32 per cent,  out of its projected IGF target as at June stressing that  there was the need to back up.

According to the MCE, the assembly’s performance in property rates was not encouraging and therefore directed the budget and finance teams to engage more actively with rate payers to understand their challenges and advise the assembly accordingly before the preparation of the 2020 fee-fixing resolution.

“The Metropolitan Authority Committee of the TMA recommended that the assembly constitute a special sanitation enforcement taskforce to arrest and prosecute residents who undertake open defecation and indiscriminate dumping in the metropolis among other things”, Mr Anang-La  said.

As an innovation, the TMA invited the wives and husbands of the assembly members to observe proceedings in the house.
