Teacher in court for defiling 15-year-old student

A teacher, who allegedly defiled a 15-year-old student, at Dome Pillar Two, has appeared before Accra Circuit Court.

The accused, George Odum Mensah, 24, has pleaded not guilty to defilement.

The court presided by Mrs Rita Abrokwah-Doko, has admitted Odum to GH¢10,000.00 bail with two sureties, one to be a public servant.

Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire said the complainant is a mason living with his family, including the victim, at Dome Pillar Two, and Mensah is a teacher of a school in the area.

Prosecution said in November last year, the victim’s mother employed Mensah to assist her daughter (the victim) in extra classes at home, after school from 6pm to 8pm.

Chief Insp Atimbire said the victim’s mother allocated to them a room to be used as a study room.

In February this year, the prosecutor said Mensah took advantage of the situation and had sex with the victim in the study room.

Chief Insp Atimbire said after the act, Mensah gave the victim gifts, including beads, ear-rings, two ladies purse, ribbons and pregnancy test kits.

The court heard that the victim’s mother found the items and when she quizzed the girl, she said that Mensah gave her the items after having sex with her.

Chief Insp Atimbire said the victim’s mother warned accused not to step in her house and he should desist from talking to the victim.

Prosecution said On October 14 this year, the victim’s mother saw her (the victim) with Samsung Galaxy Express Two mobile phone, and she confided in her mother that it was the accused who gave it to her in September, this year.

Chief Insp Atimbire stated that when the victim’s mother scrolled through the phone, she saw a nude picture of the accused, which he had sent to the victim through WhatsApp.

He said the same day, the victim left the house and her mother went to report the matter to the police and Mensah was arrested.- GNA
