Two new programmes meant to empower students on how to create jobs after their studies has been introduced at the Tamale Technical University (TaTU) in the Northern Region.
Dr Abdul-Razak Abubakar Dean of Student of Faculty Business named the two programmes with a four-year duration as Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Business Management and BTech in entrepreneurship and Innovation Management.
He explained that it was becoming very difficult for graduates to get public sector jobs and therefore it was imperative for technical universities to come out with programs that would help students to be self employers hence the introduction of the new programs.
Dr Abubakar stressed that students should be empowered with skills to become problem solvers but not become problems to the society.
According to the Dean of Students, the programmes had been approved by the National Accreditation Board, and students with the necessary qualification were encouraged to apply for the programmes.
Dr Abubakar added that the programmes were uniqueness and would help change students’ mindset.
He emphasised that the programmes would focus on practical rather than theory.
The Head of Department of Secretaryship and Management Studies, Mr Sulemana Alhassan emphasised the uniqueness of the programmes saying the institution had established an incubator to support the students with practical knowledge during their studies.
He further explained that students after completing their programmes would be able to establish their own businesses especially those who want to be self-employed.
