Talented Stars pip Kharis Academy for Div. 2 slot

Kumasi-based side, Sporti Talented Stars FC have secured qualification to the Ashanti region second division league with a 1-0 victory in an exciting duel against Kharis Academy at the Asem Park, Amakom.

The match, played on October 3, proved worthy of its billing as a decider as the two teams of sprightly and enterprising youngsters, sold a classic game to the spectators including some high-profile football personalities like the Ashanti Region Football Association (RFA) boss Osei Tutu Agyemang (aka Kotoro), the Secretary Andrews Ntim as well as Kumasi Asante Kotoko legends OpokuNti, owner of the losing side and Malik Jabir.

Kumawood actor, Yaw Dabo was also in attendance, drawing a lot of attention. 

Sporti Talented Stars’ midfield dynamo, AmpaduAfriyie drew gasps from the over 2,000 fans at the Asem Park with a superb finish in the 30th minute.

As if the drama of the fiercely-contested 90 minutes was not enough, injury time produced another high point with Kharis Academy awarded a penalty in the 93rd minute.

Elisha Kwaning Larbi, in post for Sporti Talented, dived in the right direction to save the situation, thus ending the game on a wave of high emotions.

Manager of the victorious side, Tony Gargo, said after the match that the qualification was a just reward for hard work, dedication and determination from all.

He praised the players and technical team for their commitment, and reserved special plaudits from the Chief and people of Oduom Kumasi, where Sporti Talented Stars is based, for their great support. 

He also thanked Otu Addo Nana Afari, Chief of Ankyease Berekuso, for his backing, adding that the team would reciprocate their support with an immediate qualification to Division One.
