The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has stated it is “ready and willing” to offer professionals who are knowledgeable, dedicated and courageous to help the government resolve the crisis that has led to the termination of the concession agreement with Power Distribution Services (PDS) Ghana Limited.
“The party is also ready and willing
to help with any other governance issue if the government is willing to
cooperate and accept a genuine helping hand in the interest of the state and we
call on the citizenry to rally behind the government in its
resolve to terminate the Power Distribution Services (PDS) agreement,” it
said.
This
was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, by the
party’s Acting General Secretary, Kwabena Bomfeh Jnr on its take on the
termination of the PDS deal.
According to the party, despite the
intention of the government to cancel the deal, it is “timid” to renegotiate
Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) compact and pointed out that
“introduction of PDS, symptom of losing the country’s sovereignty, need to take our time, the government has shown commitment and
transparency by intending to terminate contract, need to support the government
and also deal with the US diplomatically to solve the problem.
“History is replete with preponderance of
examples where divestiture in state-owned assets has proved to be disaster, CPP
is laying blame of PDS fiasco at the doorstep of the government though decision
to abrogate contract is better late than never, however, essence of
intelligence act is pre-emptive rather than reactive or curative.
“The country is capable of managing energy sector from generation to distribution to management of revenue mobilisation, the government must rise above petty partisan cloaks and appoint right calibre of devoted, willing, sincere, hardworking and selfless citizens to superintend sector,” the statement said. -3news.com
