The Asokwa circuit court ‘4’ has granted GH¢50,000 bail with two sureties to the Suame National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth organiser, who allegedly called on party faithful to kill opposition party members to win power in 2024.
Razak Koampa Avoliya, who was granted bail on Tuesday, had been remanded on two occasions by the court, presided over by Judge Fred Obikyere.
The youth organiser, accused of inciting political violence, had pleaded not guilty to the charge of offensive conduct, conducive to the breach of peace.
Mr Evans Amankwa, counsel for the suspect, told the court the client’s comment was not meant to destabilise the country, but admitted it was condemnable.
Prosecuting, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kofi Blagodzie, had told the court that investigations into the case had been conducted.
He however, asked for extension of time for videos concerning the case to be taken to the Institute of Languages for transcription.
ACP Blagodzie did not object to the bail and assured the court the police had the right ‘arsenals’ to prosecute accused when hearing commences.
The Ashanti Regional executive of the NDC on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 handed accused over to the police, after he was declared a wanted man.
That was after he made alleged unsavory statements in a video and he was arraigned and remanded in police custody.
Avoliya would reappear before the court on March 9.
The Circuit Court earlier remanded the Suame Constituency Youth organiser of the NDC.
The court declined the request for bail by the counsel of accused and insist the matter bothers on national Security.
Avoliya was arrested, charged and detained after party executives turned him over to the police.
He was seen in a viral video urging NDC supporters to unleash mayhem on members of the New Patriotic Party during the 2024 elections.
ACP Kofi Blagodzie had prayed the court for more time to enable investigations to be concluded.
He argued that the release of Avoliya might cause anarchy considering the magnitude of his ‘hate speech’ on Sunday when he granted a local media house interview during an event.
