An 18-year-old student of Adisadel College has appeared before the Accra Circuit Court “1” for allegedly robbing another student of GH¢5.00.
Prince Ethelbert, who allegedly used a knife to threaten Gabriel Kwame Sarfo-Asare, the complainant, has pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery.
Consequently, the court presided by Mr Aboagye Tandoh, adjourned the case to today, to rule on the bail application by Ethelbert’s counsel, whose name has not given.
Counsel told the court that his client was a student, but the Judge said he could not take the lawyer’s word.
Chief Inspector W.K Boat, the prosecutor, told the court that accused attacked the complainant on Methodist University campus Dansoman, Accra, where he (complainant) was attending vacation classes on February 13, 2019.
The court heard that Sarfo-Asare lives at Odorkor, while accused resides at Abeka Lapaz, a suburb of Accra.
Chief Insp Boat said accused met complainant, who was late for class and begged for GH¢5 and when accused turned down the request, Ethelbert threatened to stab him with a knife.
Fearing for his life, Sarfo-Asare handed his bag to accused, who searched the bag and took the GH¢5.00 and took to his heels.
However, luck eluded Ethelbert, as the complainant raised the alarm and Ethelbert was arrested by two campus security men.
Prosecution said accused was handed to the police together with the knife and the money.
Chief Insp. Boat said Ethelbert admitted the offence in his caution statement before he was arraigned.
