The Chief of Staff, Mrs Akosua Frema Osei-Opare has tasked chief executives of state-owned enterprises and other appointees of the government who cannot deliver to step aside and allow others to stand in their stead to prosecute the President’s agenda of transforming the nation.
She explained that, there should be no room for excuses adding that, as appointees, they must be on the alert to ensure the realisation of the vision of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The Chief of Staff gave the admonition at the opening of a three-day retreat for board chairpersons, chief executive officers, deputy chief executives officers and ministers at Mankessim in the Central Region.
Participants at the programme are expected to come up with innovative ways on how to transform state-owned enterprises and also understand the new State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA) Act and its implications on the performance of specified entities.
They would be taken through issues on corporate governance, ways of building successful business and service delivery as well as peer-to-peer lessons and guidelines on turnaround successes among others.
Mrs Osei-Opare cautioned all appointees to recognise that they were replaceable and that, they have a responsibility to the President and the people of the country.
She explained that, the current administration under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo had ambitious plans for the development of the nation, saying, “We are reminded that, our role is to contribute towards achieving projects initiated by the President.”
“We have to walk the talk if we are to achieve these ambitious projects. We cannot fail with the calibre of people assembled here,” she said.
Mrs Osei-Opare further cautioned the chief executive officers and their deputies, board chairpersons and ministers not to view their positions as avenues to settle old scores but as a vehicle to ensure that the agencies they work in witness drastic transformation.
She noted that, sometimes there were misunderstanding of functions and roles among people appointed into certain organisations and said the situation do not inure to the benefit of such organisations.
Mrs Osei-Opare said that officials in positions of authority in institutions must do away with issues that bring friction and unhealthy relationships which she noted would derail progress being made by such institutions.
She further urged the chief executives and board chairpersons to ensure that, they organised regular meetings on how to develop strategies in ensuring the transformation of their institutions.
The Director General of State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng, in his presentation, urged the chief executives of state- owned enterprises to work together as a team to deliver on their mandate.
He said that the various agencies should share their success stories and ensure the adoption of innovative ideas.
The various chief executives of state-owned enterprises, he said, would soon be signing performance contracts and said that, the annual bonuses paid should be done if the organisation was making much profit.
