SSNIT urges contributors to update records

The Adabraka Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Branch Manager, Mr Kojo Pobee Abaka Hayford, on Thursday urged pension scheme contributors to update their records frequently to enhance payment of funds when due for retirement.

This was revealed at the Accra West Women’s Committee seminar on SSNIT regulations and how to prepare for pension.

The engagement was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the trust, employers and to deepen their understanding of the operations of the trust and discuss challenges facing employers concerning the SSNIT scheme.

It was attended by representatives of Trade Unions as well as workers in the formal sectors.

Mr Hayford said the scheme offered an in-built life insurance, adding that “it’s only SSNIT that’s assured one of longevity pension and as stakeholders we must uphold the scheme and guard it.”

He urged workers in both the formal and informal sectors to plan for their retirement and also called on employers to restructure salaries of employees and pay good premium for a better retirement package.

“The employers are also not to load allowances of workers and give meagre salaries, but rather offer good salaries and register all employees including casuals onto the scheme to enable them to enjoy a peaceful retirement,” he added.

Mrs Anita Delight Danquah, a Barrister and Solicitor with Audit Service speaking on the need to write a will before death said the activity was necessary with the help of an estate planning attorney.

“Will is a legal document that details what you want to be done with your possessions after your death,” she stated.
