US-based non-profit organisation, Soccer for Dreamers, has donated football equipment to selected female and male juvenile teams in the country at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Secretariat.
The items included boots, footballs, wristbands and shin guards.
They also presented other items such as menstrual cups, soaps and provided hot meals for the players.
The presentation, according to Madam Sylvia Akwaboah, President of the Foundation, was to support the growth of the game at the grassroots level and also give back to the society.
Beneficiary clubs included side Faith Ladies FC, Division One sides Rootz Sistaz FC and Anlo Ladies FC, Kotobabi Powerlines FC, True Democracy FC and Strong Tower FC as the male juvenile clubs.
Addressing them, Madam Akwaboah urged the girls not to be distracted by the period of menstruation.
She educated the girls on the menstrual cup, reusable feminine hygiene product, which can help them manage their cycles in a less expensive way.
Madam Akwaboah told the Times Sports that the gesture followed the positive response from last year’s donation to a different set of groups.
Madam Renee Opare-Otoo, a dietician for the national teams, told the players to be mindful of what they consume, saying that, “You have to eat the best foods for optimal performance on the field”.
She thanked the GFA, Rotary Club of Livingston NJ, Kicknsticks Millburn NJ, Redbulls Academy, Codams Gifts & Cards, FrynBake and Jenny’s Drinks for supporting them.
The Country Co-ordinator of the foundation, Stephane Lecosson, disclosed that the foundation would soon hold a two-day programme specifically for female and male teams.
Co-founders of the foundation include Jed, Baruch and Kayden Akwaboah.
