Skyy FC crowned DOL Super Cup champions

Daboase based Division One side; Skyy FC defeated Tema Youth 7-6 via penalty shoot-outs to lift the maiden Division One League (DOL) Super Cup at the Madina Park on Saturday.

Both teams played out a 1-1 stalemate at the end of regulation time.

The two sides overpowered their respective opponents, Accra Lions and Samartex respectively at the semi-final stage to book a place in the final.

Skyy FC started well and threatened the goal post of Tema Youth.

Later on, forward Ebenezer Mamatah fired Skyy into the lead in the 15th minute after latching on a good pass from Emmanuel Eshun. 

The talisman moved into space before rounding up the defencemen of Tema Youth to slot home.

Tema Youth quickly settled and begun to press for the equaliser.

Before the break, midfielder Emmanuel Owusu leveled matters for the Harbour City lads to take his tally to four.

Minutes after recess, Skyy FC, through Emmanuel Eshun went close to restoring the lead but his shot went wide after a brilliant build up from the left side of attack.

The duo of Evans Osei Owusu and Emmanuel Owusu kept pressing but the gallant defence of Skyy FC remained resolute.

After a series of end to end action, the referee blew his whistle to end the game 1-1 after 120 minutes of action.

Skyy FC converted seven of their kicks while Tema Youth scored six and missed one.

Skyy FC were presented with a cheque for GH¢15,000, a trophy and medals with the runners-up walking home with a cheque for GH¢8,000 and medals.

Tema Youth’s Emmanuel Owusu ended the tournament as the Best Player and Top Scorer with four goals while Ruben Hennessy also from Tema Youth was adjudged the Best Defender.

Ghana Premier League debutants, Accra Lions hammered Samartex 3-1 to win the third place play-off.
