The Sissala East Municipal Assembly has appealed to the Northern Development Authority (NDA) to consider completing projects which are at various stages of construction.
It expressed worry during the period under review some projects were undertaken with some ongoing and others nearing completion but seemed abandoned.
The Assembly approved all documents presented to the House, which included the Municipal Chief Executive’s speech, composite budget, fee fixing resolution and Annual Action Plan, all for the 2022 fiscal year.
It noted that 13 projects commenced by the Northern Development Authority in 2020 with completion period of three months since 2020 April had all now stalled and required completion to benefit the residents.
Currently, it disclosed that nine of the projects were at the roofing stage while the rest have had the sites handed over with two at the lintel level and there was the need for the Authority to complete the projects so as to improve livelihoods and accelerate growth and development.
“Completion of the projects will reduce infrastructure challenges faced in educational sector whilst completion of Community Based Health Planning and Services compounds will bring healthcare delivery to the doorstep of the people in the municipality, and mobilised an amount of GHC380, 477.00 as its internally generated funds for period June 1 to September 30, 2021, representing 43.6 per cent of total estimated target.
“Only 40 per cent of the five zonal councils were realised out of those that raised total of GHC199, 893.50 out of the GHC500, 000, expected target. The highest of the five was Welembelle zonal council, which raked in GHC64,217 representing 64 per cent and lowest being Sakai zonal council, which mobilised GHC21,962 representing 22 per cent,” the assembly revealed.
Fuseini Batong, the Municipal Chief Executive, who made the appeal at the third ordinary sitting of the Assembly, commended the staff of the assembly and encouraged them to continue to give their best in ensuring the assembly developed to befit its status.
He thanked the government for releasing the Districts Assembly’s Common Fund for last quarter of 2020, as well as first quarter of 2021 and appealed for release of second and third quarters of this year to ensure progress, growth and development of the municipality.
Sumaila Doho, the Presiding Member for the Assembly, attributed low level of internally generated funds to revenue leakages and dishonesty on the part of some revenue collectors and declared the year 2022 as the year of probity, transparency and accountability in revenue mobilisation. -GNA
