Seven MMDs score 100% in district league table

Seven Metropolises, Municipalities and Districts (MMDs) have scored 100 per cent in the health sector on the 2021 District League Table (DLT).

They were the Asutifi South District in the Ahafo Region; Ayawaso East District, Ayawaso North Municipality, Korle-Klottey Municipality and the Tema Metropolis in Greater Accra Region.

The remaining include the Brim Central Municipality in the Eastern Region and the Chereponi District in the North East Region.

The 2021 DLT Report was the seventh edition which was built on the progress of work accomplished over the six editions and provided an assessment of the levels of development across all the 261 Metropolises, Municipalities and the Districts (MMDs) in the country based on selected indicators from health, nutrition, education, water, sanitation, energy and governance.

The report was launched by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on the theme “Generating Evidence for Addressing Unequal Access to Services and Development Opportunities for Children.”

The report said that indicators including proportion of mothers who made at least four Antenatal Care (ANC) visits, proportion of newborns/mothers receiving Post Natal Care (PNC), proportion of children under one year fully immunised and the skilled attendant at delivery were used to measure the performance of all MMDs in the health sector.

It stated that three out of the 10 were districts, five were municipalities and two were metropolises.

The report indicated that the Ga Central Municipality located in the Greater Accra Region was the least ranked MMD in the health sector.

“The municipality for instance recorded skilled delivery attendance of 10.1 per cent compared to the average of 66.1 per cent for the country,” it added.

The other MMDs included Ningo-Prampram District, Adentan Municipality, Ablekuma Central Municipality, Ablekuma West Municipality, Ablekuma North Municipality, Kpone-Katamanso Municipality, Guan District, Akrofuom District and the Akuapim South Municipality.

It said seven out of the 10 least ranked MMDs in the health sector were municipalities with the remaining three with the status of district.

No MMDs in the five northern regions was among the least 10 ranked MMDs in the health sector. The large number of MMDs in both ranks were in the Greater Accra Region, an indication of inequality in access to healthcare across the region.
