Scrap dealer jailed 20 months for theft

A 19-year-old scrap dealer, who resides at Konkomba Market in Accra, has been sentenced to 20 months imprisonment by the Winneba District Magistrate Court for unlawful entry, unlawful damage and stealing.

Abdul Wahab, pleaded guilty to the charges and was convicted on his own plea by the court presided by Isaac Oheneba-Kufour.

Prosecuting, Police Detective Sergeant Bernice Wie told the court that the complainant is Mr. John Ehun, a teacher, resides at Gomoa Pomadze, in the Central region.


He said on January 24, 2019, at about 1pm, Wahab a group of people, who also reside at Gomoa Pomadze, met the convict holding a 43” Samsung flat screen Television and a sack containing DSTV, Multi TV decoders, a DVD player, an extension board and a TV antenna booster, all valued at GH¢ 2,800.00.

Police Sgt Wie said when the people became suspicious, and arrested the scrap dealer and interrogated him over the items, he admitted stealing them from the complainant’s house, near the Ahmadiyya Mission at Gomoa Pomadze.

According to prosecution, the accused led the group to the house and showed them the ladder he used in climbing into the house to steal the items.

The group called the complainant, who identified the items as his, and escorted the convict with the exhibits to the Winneba Police Station. – GNA
