Safiu, Yacouba out of Kotoko’s squad for Kano Pillars game

Asante Kotoko Coach Kjetil Zachariassen has named a 23-man squad for their CAF Champions League first leg clash against Nigerian side Kano Pillars.

The squad moved to Accra on Monday where they will continue with preparation until the make the journey to Nigeria Thursday for the match slated for Saturday.

Conspicuously missing from the squad were key attackers Sogne Yacouba and Fatawu Safiu.

Safiu was expected to be in the team that will leave for Kano after his trials with Swedish side Helsingborg was truncated because of the amount involved.

Meanwhile, Burkinabe forward Sogne Yacouba is reported to be unfit for the game due to injuries. 

Below is the squad for the game:

Goalkeepers: Felix Annan, Kwame Baah, Osei Kwame

Defenders: Samuel Frimpong, Empem Dacosta, Augustine Sefah, Evans Owusu, Patrick Yeboah, Stephen Ayiku Tetteh, Habib Mohammed, Wahab Adams, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu.

Midfielders: Alexis Didi, Justice Blay, Jordan Opoku, Kelvin Andoh, Augustine Okrah, Emmanuel Gyamfi, Godfred Asiamah, Martin Antwi.

Strikers: George Abege, Richard Arthur and Naby Keita.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Felix Annan has been named the new captain of the club and subsequently presented to the patron of the club, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The 24-year old was handed the leadership role of the team following the departure of long standing captain Amos Frimpong to Guinean side AS Kaloum Stars.

On Sunday management and players of the club visited the owner of the club, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, ahead of their trip to Nigeria for their CAF Champions League clash against Kano Pillars on August 10.

 “It’s a privilege to be named as captain of this great club,” Annan said.

“I accept it wholeheartedly and promised to give my very best; be a good example to the players and also continue to put the club first in everything I do both on and off the field.” –Ghanasoccernet
