RTU hail Alhaji Jawula for Premier League return

Former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Lepowura Alhaji MND Jawula, has been hailed by newly-promoted premier league side Real Tamale United (RTU), for the mammoth role he played in the club’s return to elite football.

In a glowing citation in his honour dated August 1, 2021, the club described Lepowura as the “most committed” Board Member whose dedicated service of perseverance and commitment to the course of RTU, powered them back to the premiership.

Signed by the Board Chairman Alhaji I.S Sheriff, the citation read:”The Chief Patron, Management, Technical Team, Players and Supporters wish to honour you MND Lepowura Jawula, as one of our dedicated and most committed Board Member for steering the affairs of the club in an interim capacity to propel RTU back into the elite division of Ghana football (Ghana Premier League) in the year 2020/2021 football season, after a long wait.”

It adds: “Your commitment both financially and morally is unparalleled and despite all the hydra-headed obstacles on your way, you remained resolute and undaunted.”

The citation described Lepowura Jawula’s feat as no mean an achievement, having printed an indelible mark in the soccer history of the North and Ghana as a whole in getting RTU back into the premiership.

Lepowura Jawula, who is a CAF Inter Clubs Committee member and Chairman of the Ghana Premier League Management Committee, has served RTU in various capacities – having pumped a mass of resources in his avowed bid to get the ‘Pride of the North’ assumed its former status in Ghana football.

RTU booked a place in the domestic top flight for the first time in 10 years after securing a 2-0 win over Unity FC on the final day(Sunday, July 25, 2021) to emerge tops in Zone 1 of the Division One League (DOL).

A former player of RTU, Alhaju Dawoad, now serves as the club’s Chief Executive with Alhaji Alhassan Shani Saibu as Chief Patron.
