The Rotary Club of Accra-Osu Oxford Street, an NGO, at the weekend presented items valued at GH¢9,000 to the Motherly Love Foundation, an orphanage in Accra.
The items which included food items, toiletries, sanitary supplies, detergents and confectioneries were to make the lives of the children, about 80 per cent of whom lived with Immunodeficiency Virus, Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS), more comfortable.
President of the Rotary Club of Accra-Osu Oxford Street, Priscilla Ekua Praba Fynn, presenting the items said the donation which was also done last year was to make the children feel more loved and cared for.
Miss Praba indicated that there was the need to support the children so as to “help them appreciate their lives better and prolong their life span than they would have lived if they were left on their own.”
Appreciating Wilmar Africa Limited, producers of Frytol Vegetable Oil and Fortune Rice for its support towards the donation, the President of the Rotary Club of Accra-Osu Oxford Street pledged Rotary’s unflinching support to the home in the years ahead.
“We know these are just orphans that are living with HIV/AIDS and have been abandoned by their families and they require attention and love from us.
It is for this reason that the Rotary Club of Accra Osu Oxford Street has pledged to ensure that we make them have a smile on their faces at all times,” Miss Praba stressed.
Rev. John Azumah, Founder of the Motherly Love Foundation who received the items expressed the Foundation’s gratitude to the club for honouring their promise and assisting the Foundation just like they did last year.
Speaking on why the foundation catered for persons with HIV/AIDS, the Founder of the foundation noted that “we gather them because stigma has been the order of the day.
This home exists to give hope to such children. We make sure they take their antiretroviral drugs and they go back to school.”
Rev. Azumah, therefore, used the opportunity to beseech Ghanaians to desist from stigmatising HIV/AIDS persons and accept and welcome them in society.
He also called on other well-meaning individuals and corporate entities to come to the aid of the Foundation.
