Rotaract Africa Summit Ghana 2022 participants have donated medical supplies valued at GH¢40,500 to the Amedzofe Heath Centre in the Ho West District, Volta Region, as part of efforts to improve health delivery at the facility.
The medical equipment included digital blood pressure apparatus, hospital beds, five mattresses, pillows, 20 sets of bed sheets, reusable sanitary tissues, pillow cases and 30 Out Patients Department (OPD) chairs.
The Rotaract Africa Summit is a historic event bringing together dynamic young leaders from Africa and beyond to celebrate diverse perspectives, discover common interests and inspire new synergies.
The gesture was in response to a request made by the administration of the Amedzofe Health Centre after a visit by the group to the facility in August this year.
Speaking at the ceremony to present the items to the health facility, Chairperson of the Summit, Mr Eli Ampim, said following the request and the needs assessment, the Host Organising Committee (HOC) of the Summit decided to partner with PayAngel Limited, an international money transfer and payment firm, Rotary District 9102 and other generous Rotarians in Ghana to execute the project.
Mr Eli Ampim added that the key areas of focus of the project were disease prevention and treatment, and maternal and child health.
Governor of Rotary District 9102, Mr Victor Y. Asante, in his speech, said the Rotary Club worked with communities to solve problems and therefore encouraged the facility to take good care of the items donated.
“We are the gift that keeps giving, and if you take good care of the items, hopefully we will be back to give more,” he added.
Past Rotary International Vice-President, Mr Yinka Babalola, in his remarks, lauded the participants for adding the community service project to their fun conference.
He invited the community leaders and members to encourage their young children to find the nearest Rotaract club to join so they could also be part of doing good in the world.
The Rotary International Director, Mr Patrick D. Chisanga, on his part, assured that the club would return to respond to others needs within the community.
Business Relationship Manager at PayAngel, Mr Delali Xavier Corby Kotoka, said “even though we are a money transfer and solution agent, we are firm believers in the United Nation’s SDG goal 3, which talks about good health and well-being, and therefore we find it very important to be part of this project and to donate towards a good cause”.
Receiving the items on behalf of the community, the Assembly member for the area, Mr Ameh Robert, expressed gratitude to the group for coming to the aid of the health facility and community at large.
“Your donation is a big relief and has brought life back to us as a community. We are thankful,” he added.
The Public Health Officer at the health centre, Mr Dzator Robert Roger, also expressed gratitude for the support and assured the items received would be put to good use and properly maintained.
