Collins Nana Baidoo, the President of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) branch of the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (KNUST-TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on the executives of the party to resource the association to deliver on its mandate.
“If the association is well placed and adequately resourced it will be poised to educate and sensitise the citizenry on government’s agenda devoid of propaganda however, our incompetence puts the party in danger of exiting the seat in 2024,” it said.
He cautioned that its inability to explain government’s socioeconomic development agenda irrespective of performance in all sectors of the economy, the party may not be able to retain power in 2025.
Mr Baidoo made the call at the TESCON-KNUST youth forum and freshers’ orientation under the theme: ‘Reenergising the youth and TESCON to break the 8’, which brought together students and various executives of the party to deliberate on TESCON’s role in ensuring victory in Election 2024.
According to him, “if we are unable to explain to Ghanaians the current situation we find ourselves, irrespective of how we are performing in terms of roads, health, education and all other sectors of the economy, we may not be able to retain power in 2024 because TESCON as the intellectual wing must be well resourced to give meaning to why it was formed”.
Mr Baidoo announced a bursary meant to supplement the various scholarship opportunities for members and revealed a committee had been set up for the purpose and TESCON-KNUST would launch a bursary to supplement the various scholarship opportunities implemented by the government for its members.
He indicated that it would go a long way to subdue the financial challenges and difficulties some members face on campus.
Salim Mansuru Bamba, Ashanti Regional NASARA Coordinator, admonished the freshers’ to be mindful of the political ideology and ideals of the party which was crucial in their political career progression.
Theophilus Berchie, President of Tertiary Education Institutional Network (TEIN)-KNUST, encouraged his outfit and TESCON to come up with national policy to ensure sustainable growth and development of the youth and was hopeful such a move would be binding irrespective of the government in power.
“I am pleading that TESCON and TEIN will come together with development plan, a youthful policy that will help the country and confident any political party that will succeed will have to implement such a policy,” he pointed out. –myjoyonline.com
