The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Ghana has climaxed this year’s edition of the Korea Week Celebrations with a Korea Food (K-Food) Contest in Accra.
The celebrations took off on Tuesday October 4 with a competition dubbed ‘Quiz on Korea’
It saw scores of young Ghanaians in a stiff competition to give right answers to questions posed in attempts to emerge victorious.
The quiz was focused on the Korean technology, culture, movies, sports, history and other activities of the Asian country.
The event that followed the quiz competition was the cooking contest held at the Ninano Korean Restaurant, Osu Accra.
In the end, Selorm Abla Afeke and Gifty Gyamfua emerged winners of the quiz and K-Food contest respectively.
All winners and runners-up for the competitions received cash prizes from the Korean Embassy and Samsung products, while all participants also received some rewards for part taking in the programme.
In an interview with the Ghanaian Times on the sidelines of the competitions, the Korean Ambassador to Ghana, Lim Jeong-Taek indicated the Korea Week Celebration marked every year in the country formed parts of activities by the embassy to introduce the culture of Korea to Ghanaians.
“We want the Ghanaian people to know more about us by introducing our culture to them and helping them learn our history.” “We value our diplomatic relationship with Ghana and we will continue to relate peacefully in the interest of both countries,” he said.
He stated that many Ghanaians had developed interest in Taekwon-Do, a Korean form of martial arts characterized by punching and kicking techniques, adding that it showed the love and interest they had in the Korean way of life.
The ambassador revealed that currently there were more than 2000 Taekwon-Do centers across Ghana giving off their best in training persons interested in learning the skill.
He therefore commended all Taekwon-Do practitioners for finding interest in the Korean martial art and showing readiness to train others.
“We want Ghanaians to know more about everything related to Korea that is why we do not take our Korean Week Celebration for granted.”
“We are grateful to all who participated and joined us to make this year’s edition a success. Next year’s will be bigger and better,” he added.
In furtherance Ambassador Lim Jeon-Taek called on the government and diplomatic corps to support Korea’s bid to host the World Expo 2030 Busan Korea.
He noted that the Korean government was proposing to host the World Expo 2030 Busan, to showcase the country’s vision to the global society.
The host city of the World Expo 2030 is scheduled to be announced through a vote during the 173rd General Assembly of the Bureau International Des Exposition (BIE ) in November 2023 after a chain of procedures, such as due diligence slated for the first quarter of 2023.
