Remove Deputy EC chair from office for ‘misconduct’ – CEDAG

The Centre for Democratic and Accountable Governance (CEDAG) has petitioned the president to remove Dr Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) from office for ‘misconduct’.

In a petition to the president, the group complained of series of what it described as misconduct by Dr Asare which included comments on the just aborted December 17, 2019 referendum.

It claimed his comments on the just aborted December 17, 2019 referendum to allow political parties to participate in local government elections where he allegedly openly campaigned for a ‘yes’ vote during an interview was unacceptable since the comments “cast a shadow of slur on him as a person that is not fit for the job of a Deputy Electoral Commissioner.

“It is highly reprehensible, the conduct of the Deputy Chairperson of the EC, Dr Asare who heads and oversees the election processes of our country to take sides and openly campaigned in favour of a moiety of the opposing group.

“This conduct and some others should not be countenanced, a reason we ask President Nana Akufo-Addo to remove Dr Asare from office as Deputy Commissioner to restore the confidence and to safeguard our democratic dispensation, good governance, rule of law, transparency, free, fair, credible and peace of the country,” the petition said. -myjoyonline.com
