REGSEC bans group hunting in N/R to curb coronavirus

The Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has temporarily banned group hunting in the region as part of efforts to contain and curb the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) disease.

The ban which was contained in a communique signed by the Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, and issued to the press at the weekend falls in line with President Nana Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s directive on the suspension of social gathering and grouping.

He emphasised that the REGSEC was determined to ensure strict compliance of the President’s directive.

Mr Saeed maintained that it was in the interest of all to obey the directive, as it was intended to help curb the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

The regional minister, who is also the chairman of REGSEC, warned that the security agencies would deal ruthlessly with anyone or group of people found in any form of hunting in the region.

He explained that the directive had taken cognizance of the large number of people who usually pack themselves in vehicles for hunting and its dangers, and stressed that, it was prudent to ban it to prevent the spread of the disease in the area.

Mr Saeed added that REGSEC would not hesitate to roll out more measures, as and when appropriate, to contain and avert the spread of COVID-19.

He, therefore, called on all the people in the region, particularly religious leaders and traditional rulers, to co-operate with the authority to stop the spread of the disease.
