A leading member of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Reverend L.K.B Trotsky, has urged the electorate to come out and register for the new voter ID cards when the Electoral Commission (EC) opens registration on June 30.
“The ability of the electorate to register for their voter IDs, is the only legitimate means they can break the dominance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ghana politics,” he observed.
The EC has set Tuesday, June 30, 2020, to compile a new voters’ register and the exercise will be held at all registration centres and district offices of the commission.
Rev. Trotsky accused both parties of misrule as their regimes were often characterised by ineptness, excessive borrowing, unbridled corruption, and abandonment of key state projects started by previous regimes.
“We are fed up with President Nana Akufo-Addo and former President John Mahama’s deceptions and failure to fight corruption in the country during their terms of office, we’ve had former President Mahama’s failed energy policies of erratic power supply, unemployment and a £5 million alleged kickback scandal on purchase of military planes, which was published on May 14, 2020 in the UK, by the Sun newspaper.
“Akufo-Addo-led administration has also failed us on their promise to establish one district, one factory and one million dollars per constituency so both political parties have often been indicted for failing to fight corruption and tame mounting unemployment as well as neglecting the development of state enterprises.
“Both NPP and NDC deserve to be voted out during the December 2020 general election to clear the way for GUM to take charge of the governance of our country to transform the economy,” Rev. Trotsky lamented and indicated that “GUM was founded by Reverend Kwabena Andrews (Osofo Kyiriabosom), a great man of God sent to rescue Ghanaians from oppression and hardships from both NPP and NDC governance.”
Commenting on the 2020 polls, he said GUM needed votes to win the December elections and the electorate needed their new ID cards to vote for the party and appealed to them to encourage each other at their polling stations when the new register opens on June 30. -GNA
