Register for Ghana Card – Dr Letsa

THE Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, has said that the ongoing national identity card registration exercise would provide a strong data base to facilitate national development planning programmes.

He, therefore, entreated members of the public to eschew apathy towards the exercise, and come to out in their numbers to register for their cards.

Dr Letsa said these after he took part in the registration exercise and picked up his national identity card at the registration centre at the Ho Residency yesterday.

He said that the card also served as proof of identity and residence, saying that those were vital for national security matters as well.

Dr Letsa maintained that such schemes had worked positively in other countries in the sub-region, and so, there was no reason for Ghana to be left behind.

The regional minister pointed out that valid records which bore the bio-data and other details of the citizens were an essential requirement for implementing set national development goals in modern states.

The registration exercise at the residency was patronised by personnel of the security agencies and various heads of department.

Others who turned up at the centre in the morning to register for their national identity cards included the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Rev. Johnson Avuletey, Lt. Col. B. B. Pantoah, Commanding Officer of the 66 Artillery Regiment and the Deputy Commissioner of the Ghana Immigration Service commanding the Volta Region, DC Peter Claver Nantuo.

Some local church leaders also turned up for the exercise at the residency.

Meanwhile, a large number of public servants in the regional capital, turned up at a second registration centre in the Volta Regional Coordinating Council premises to acquire their national identity cards.
