The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has given the government a three-week ultimatum to refund money collected from Ghanaians, who purchased application forms, to be employed in state-owned agencies.
This came as several security agencies, including the Ghana Police Service, which begun mass recruitment exercise across the country and eligible applicants were required to purchase forms at GH¢100.00.
Addressing the journalists at the party’s headquarters in Accra, the National Chairman of the party, Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong-Kumankumah said the CPP would go to court, should the government fail to heed to their call.
“I am giving the institutions up to September 21, 2021, to refund the monies to the applicants,” she said.
“If it does not happen, they would see the anger of the youth and those of us who are committed to following the dreams and aspirations of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, we would explore every means legally possible, to drive home our concerns,” she added.
Questioning why a citizen will have to pay to serve the state, Nana Sarpong-Kumankumah indicated that the government would be encouraging corruption by extorting monies from the youth.
“Why am I expected to pay GH¢100 to apply for a job as a youth in this country, this is extortion at its peak.
“I am appealing to the President to immediately look into it. For the state to ask the youth of this country to pay, just to find a job is unacceptable,” she said.
She observed that the government “will not be able to get patriotic Ghanaians to fight corruption if this mode of application is institutionalised.”
The party is, therefore, demanding that the government accounts for monies collected in the past.
