Rainfall renders Yimahigu residents homeless

Residents of Yimahigu, a farming community in the Yendi municipality of the Northern Region, were yesterday rendered homeless following a heavy rainstorm on Tuesday.

The heavy rainstorm destroyed properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis belonging to the affected people of the community.

Some of the affected properties include houses, school buildings, farm inputs, mosques and churches.

Mr Abukari Alhassan Wajid, a resident, told Ghanaian Times in an interview that the rainstorm had destroyed all their properties.

“Last night, I was compelled to sleep outside with my family,” he said.

He explained that the affected families were in tears over where they would put their heads.

“As of now, all our properties are outside and we do not know where to keep them,”Mr Wajid stressed.

He said the rainstorm had blown most of their properties and destroyed their crops.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Yendi, Alhaji Ahmed Yusif Abubakari, saidb he had asked the Municipal office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to take data of the affected houses so their needs could be addressed accordingly.

He said the assembly was working tirelessly to make sure that they get to the affected people as early as possible
