Rabat 2019 athletes to be scrutinised

Rev Richmond Quarcoo, Chef De Mission (CDM) for the 12th edition of the Africa Games in Rabat, Morocco, has said selected athletes would be subjected to a thorough scrutiny before their participation in the competition.

Speaking at a press conference to announce preparations for the Games, he said though all athletes attending the Games would be selected by their respective federations based on their own criteria, the final list would be subjected to the approval by the technical sub-committee of the International Games and Competitions Committee (IGCC).

He added that the full list of athletes and officials would be approved by the Ministry of Youth and Sports on the advice of the IGCC before departure.

This he said was to ensure that, only medal winning athletes were selected for the competition.

Rev Quarcoo said there would be an orientation for all athletes and officials attending the Games, adding that they would be made to sign a code of conduct to ensure that all participants comport themselves well as good sports ambassadors of Ghana.

He said Team Ghana would depart to Morocco for the Games by August 16 for the competition.

Ghana would participate in 18 sporting disciplines at the competition. –GNA
