The Member of Parliament (MP) for Zebilla in the Upper East Region, Cletus Avoka, has attributed the qualms between the Minority caucus and the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to breakdown of communication.
He disclosed that the party, after Parliament went on recess,summoned the leadership of the Caucus to address the internal grievances that had created an impression of serious crisis and had consequently addressed all issues.
“The qualms between the Minority Caucus in Parliament and the leadership of the party is due to breakdown of communication but all outstanding issues have been resolved by the leadership of the party,” Mr Avoka assured.
Ken Ofori-Atta’s approval as Minister of Finance saw some members of the NDC chastising their representatives on the Appointments’ Committee of Parliament. Itresulted in Isaac Adongo, MP for Bolgatanga Central in the Upper East Region, breakig ranks with members of the party on the Committee,and Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu in the Volta Region, also resigning from the Committee,sparking rumours all was not well with the party in Parliament.
It generated some concerns that the Minority was facing leadership crisis, with some NDC loyalists calling for an immediate overhaul following disputed approval of some of ministerial nominees.
According to Mr Avoka, “it’s not so much of conflict between party leadership and NDC caucus in Parliament or one party official taking on the party position, particularly following approval of ministers. So far, the Minority has been acting in tandem with leadership ofthe party and have had meetings and I think we are now on one accord.
“At the beginning, there was communication gap between the caucus and leadership of party that accounted for some of the public statements some officials might have made.Certainly, we MPs know we owe our allegiance to the party, which is supreme and nobody in Parliament or outside is bigger than the party and we are committed to respecting views of party.
“The party has adopted a new way going forward, and it has put the past behind it. Itis committed to working towards election 2024 victory since we have been able to iron out issues, resolved to work together, caucus met national executives and council of elders a day after recess to adopt a roadmap,” Mr Avoka stressed. –citinewsroom.com
