Pulling-out ceremony held for V/R Deputy Director of Prison

THE pulling-out ceremony for Mr Victor Blewusi Agbelengor, Deputy Director of Prison (DDP), in-charge of the Volta Region, took place here on Friday.

Among the large crowd that witnessed the emotional event, were the Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, deputy regional minister,  Reverend Johnson Avuletey, and former Inspector General of Police, Mr John Kudalor.

DDP Agbelengor attended the University of Ghana between 1985 and 1987 for a National Diploma in General Agriculture, before going to the University of Cape Coast to obtain a Masters degree in Human Resource Management.

He was recruited into the Ghana Prison Service on November 27, 1989 as a Chief Officer.

After training, he was posted to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison as a Chief Officer in Agriculture.

In 1992, DDP Agbelengor enlisted and on completion of the training to become an Assistant Superintendent of Prison, and was subsequently posted to head the Awutu Camp Prison as Officer-in-Charge, and later given the additional responsibility to take over the defunct Tafo Camp Prison.

After some time, DDP Agbelengor was taken back to Nsawam to revive the agricultural wing of the prison there.

From there, he was posted to Duayaw Nkwanta Camp Prison as the second-in-command.

In 2005, DDP Agbelengor was posted to Kete-Krachi as the Officer-in-Charge and after serving there for three years, he was asked to head the James Camp Prison.

After three years, he went on a UN mission in South Sudan and on his return, was assigned as Deputy Commandant of Prison Officers Training School.

He also headed the Ankaful Main Camp Prison for three years before assuming duty in Ho as the Regional Commander of Prison.

He retired after serving the Ghana Prison Service for more than three decades.
