Prof. Seidu Allhassan assumes office as UDS VC

Prof. Seidu Alhassan, the new Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS), has assured the Government Council, Staff and students that he would work tirelessly to see the forward march of the university.

He said the university belonged to all and he would always consult them to get the needed infrastructural development for the university.

He made the statement here in Tamale on Thursday when he took over office as the new Vice Chancellor of the university.

Prof. Alhassan is the fifth Vice Chancellor of the UDS.

The ceremony was attended by the Governing Council, academia, staff, friends, family and students of the university.

The Governing Council, Chaired by Professor Wayo Seini , on Thursday, June 9, 2022, appointed Prof. Seidu Alhassan as the Vice Chancellor of the university.

Prof. Seidu Alhassan took over office from the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Gabriel Ayum Teye, whose term of office ended last month.

Prof. Alhassan is a native of Tamale and a Professor in Agricultural economics and also educationist, and had worked in the university for the past 20 years.

Until his appointment, Prof. Alhassan was a Head of Department of Food Security and Climate Change.

He was also the Director of the Institute for Continuing Education and Interdisciplinary Research(ICEIR) and also immediate past Pro Vice-Chancellor of the university.

The Relationship between Prof. Alhassan and the University started in 1996 when he set out as a Senior Research Assistant in the Department of Economics and Entrepreneurship Development.

In 1997, he was appointed a lecturer in the same department and later became a senior lecturer, Associate Professor in 2008, 2014 and Professor in 2018.

Prof. Alhassan told members of the university to liaise well with him as they work together as family to champion the good course of the university.

“I need your maximum support and cooperation to effectively run the university” he urged.

He said working together in the academic field is the only way to go in the university.

He also thanked the immediate past VC, Prof. Gabriel Ayum Teye, for the massive contribution and development he had brought into the university.

The immediate past Vice Chancellor, Prof. Gabriel Ayum Teye, appealed to the staff to support the new VC to succeed in his administration.

He thanked management of the university for the massive support given him and appealed to them to do same for the new VC.

He also encouraged every member of the university to give the new VC the maximum cooperation to lead the university.

Prof. Teye, however, advised them to be diligent in their duties and also avoid things that would not give the university a good name.
