Prof. Koomson inducted into office as Vice Chancellor of VVU

Professor William Kofi Koomson has been inducted into office as the eighth Vice-Chancellor of the Valley View University (VVU) at Oyibi, Accra.

Speaking at the induction ceremony, Prof.  Koomson said the institution had over the years thrived on integrity, excellence and service to humanity as its core values of being a leading centre for value-based Christian education.

“This has helped foster the development of the physical, intellectual, social and spiritual faculties of students in a sound learning and research atmosphere,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor mentioned that his administration would not only focus on producing highly skilled intellectuals but also on developing the character of students as a necessary tool for change and progress.

Prof. Koomson promised his commitment to serving the best interest of the university, adding that, “I am ready to rise to the task and serve to the last”.

Prior to his appointment, he served as the Director of the Centre for Adult Education and Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor at the University from August 2016-November 2018, where he saw to the establishment of the university’s online learning programme through the use of mobile phones.

He later became the rector of the Seventh-Day Adventist College from 2018 to 2022, where he advanced the college’s commitment to teacher education in teaching, research and community service.

The Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Ms Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, said Ghana needed creative minds from the university to fix the socio-economic challenges facing it.

She said VVU had an important role to play in helping the country recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic which had affected both developed and developing countries.

She urged the new Vice Chancellor to employ strategic management skills, team building, science and technology and research as his building blocks to change the status quo to help in the socio-economic development of the country.

Ms Osei-Opare advised him to promote human relations with all stakeholder groups, corporate organisations and individuals and also improve on the existing structures and programmes as well as establish new ones to maintain the university as a pacesetter among the public and private universities in the country.
