President mourns with Bishop Dag Heward-Mills on loss of son

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday visited the founder and General Overseer of the United Denominations Originating from the Lighthouse Group of Churches (UD-OLGC), Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, at his residence in Accra to mourn with him on the loss of his son.

Dr David Heward-Mills, the eldest son of Bishop Heward-Mills, was reported dead on Good Friday, April 15, after a short illness.

The young psychiatric doctor died at age 31.

President Akufo-Addo expressed sympathy to the bishop and offered the family words of encouragement.

“I came to express the sympathies and condolences of my family and I on this tragic loss. I wish the Bishop and his family the strength, comfort and love of the almighty in this difficult time. May God console and bless the family,” the President wrote in a book of condolence at the family’s residence.

According to media reports, Bishop Heward-Mills delivered an emotional sermon last Sunday, two days after his son’s demise, on the theme “The grave is not the end.”

“My son David just passed away. It spoils everything. You ask me am I sad? If you had a son who died, will you be sad? You should ask yourself that question.

“It (death) spoils everything. It brings a funny environment and it makes nonsense of everything. We always try to wish it further and further away but that is how it is,” he said.

Many Ghanaians have expressed condolences on social media to the renowned evangelist and his family.
