President cuts sod, inspects projects in Western North Region

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo yesterday cut sod and inspected projects in the Western North Region as part of his maiden two -day tour to the region.

The projects include the construction of the Western North Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), the construction of a warehouse at Essam, and sod cutting for the construction of Juaboso town roads, before commissioning the upgraded health centre of the District Hospital at Sefwi Dadoeso in Suaman District.

At Sefwi Essam, President Akufo-Addo told the community that the warehouse project under the One District One Warehouse (IDIW) policy would help farmers in the district.

He assured that the five-kilometre Essam town roads would  begin in June, this year, adding that a new contractor would  be selected to resume work on the Sefwi Essam -Benchemma  road  project which was suspended due to the  high cost involved.

“We told the contractor to reduce the cost which was too high. We would begin a new tender process so that the contractor would resume,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the 24 -kilometre Essam -Oseikojokrom road would be tackled as part of the Sinohydro package.

The second phase of the Essam Hospital, President Akufo -Addo mentioned would come on board.

The chief of Sefwi Essam, Nana Anim Bafour complained that children and adults were sharing same ward at the Essam Hospital and suggested an expansion to avoid the spread of diseases.

“Our roads have also become like a ‘sickness’ in the district,” he added.

Later, President Akufo -Addo cut the sod for work to begin on the warehouse at Essam which is being implemented by the Ministry of Special Presidential Initiatives.

Julius Krampah, one of the consultants, mentioned that the prefabricated 1,000 metric tonnes warehouse would be completed in August, this year.

Meanwhile, the President has cut the sod for the Juaboso town roads to begin. The 14.43-kilometre Juaboso town roads project being executed by Messrs Rajar Engineering Works, include various sizes of concrete U-drains.

It is hoped that it would improve driving quality, save travel time, facilitate commerce and industry, reduce vehicle operating cost and life cycle, provide a facelift for the enclave and also reduce pollution and improve health of the people.

He was accompanied by the Minister for Regional Reorganisation and Development, Mr Dan Botwe, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, Minister for Western North, Mr Kingsley Aboagye-Gyedu and former Western Regional Minister, Dr Kwaku Afriyie.
