Pres Akufo-Addo has done little for Ghana – Jinapor

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will go down in history as the luckiest president in Ghana in terms of revenues and resources, but certainly will also go down as the President who has done little for Ghana, John Abu Jinapor, a former Deputy Minister for Energy has said.

According to the Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu the main opposition, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had a superior record than the NPP, claiming that the Akufo-Addo’s government is corrupt.

Speaking at a forum organised by the NDC to discuss issues on the energy sector, he said the President who promised to tackle corruption head-on during his campaign in opposition was doing “complete opposite of what he promised voters”.

He said the Akufo-Addo’s government was now engaged in “corruption, cronyism and favoritism by running a family and friends’ government” with appointments to sensitive positions where there was opportunities to “fleece the state”.

Responding to vice-president Mahamudu Bawumia’s claim that the ruling New Patriotic Party was a better alternative than the NDC at a town hall meeting in Kumasi on Tuesday, Mr Jinapor welcomed the challenge to compare the records of the two parties during the tenure in office.

“We welcome that comparisons and indeed we want them to bring that on because we hold a superior record head-to head, pound for pound, eyeball to eyeball when it come to NPP and NDC,” he said.

He said a look at the petroleum receipt showed that President Mahama received only GH¢6.4billion in his four-year term but President Akufo-Addo by the end of this year would be receiving over GH¢20billion in petroleum revenue.

Mr Jinapoer said a critical look at the energy sector levy also showed that while President Mahama got GH¢3billion, President Akufo-Addo was receiving GH¢12 billion of the levy, adding that the NPP did not only retain the levy but increased the levy on petroleum products such as diesel, petrol and gas.

He said under the circumstances, the NDC needed to be brought back to power to change the wrong direction, the Akufo-Addo’s government was pushing Ghanaians, adding that the situation was not hopeless for redemption but rather would  worsen if NPP was given another term in office
