PPP expresses worry over ‘premature congratulatory’ message

The presidential candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Brigitte Dzogbenuku, has expressed worry about “premature congratulatory” message to a candidate when the Electoral Commission(EC) has not declared a winner of the 2020 presidential election.

It said the EC must address all allegations of fraud and irregularities recorded in the polls and would be the first to congratulate the winner of the polls should the EC declare the winner of the Presidential race.

“We are equally concerned about the various allegations of violence and possible fraud, we will like to place on record the PPP will be the first to congratulate the EC’s declared winner of the Presidential race,” a statement signed and issued by Madam Dzogbenuku said.

It said the PPP was concerned about the outcome of the 2020 Presidential race and the delay in declaring a winner, about the various allegations of violence and possible fraud and will like to place on record the party will be the first to congratulate the Commission’s declared winner of the Presidential race.

In that regard, the statement said  “premature congratulations were out of order, particularly at the time when the elections were too close to call, desist from the practice which has the tendency to promote instability in the nation.

“We encourage the EC to thoroughly review all allegations of criminality and electoral infractions, and to calm tensions in the nation by announcing figures that reflect the true will of the people and we like to advise all security services to act in the interest of the citizenry, and not for or against any political party.

“We call on citizens to be vigilant and awake by protecting the dignity of our electoral system, while at the same time being mindful all actions taken in this critical period should contribute to preserving peace, unity, cohesion and stability in the country,” the statement said. –rainbowradioonline.com
