Povetkin, Hunter draw in WBA title eliminator

Former WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin (35-2-1; 24) and Michael Hunter fought to a 12-round draw, in a WBA heavyweight title eliminator, on Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz Jr.’s undercard in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia on Saturday night.

Hunter (18-1-1; 12) attacked fiercely in the opening round, but the 40-year-old Povetkin survived the attack.

The scores were 115-113 Hunter, Povetkin 115-113 and 114-114.

WBC No. 1 rated heavyweight Dillian Whyte (27-1; 18) won on a 10-round unanimous points decision over 39-year-old Mariusz Wach (35-6; 19).

The scores were 98-93 and 97-93 twice.

In another heavyweight contest, Filip Hrgovic (10-0; 8) stopped 37-year-old Eric Molina (27-6, 19) in the third round. The time was 2:03.

Former WBC heavyweight champion Samuel Peter and former WBO heavyweight champion Siarhei Liakhovich were both stopped inside the distance on Saturday night at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Arslanbek Makhmudov (10-0; 10) won on a first-round stoppage over the 39-year-old Peter (38-9; 31) in a contest for the NABF heavyweight title.

Simon Kean (18-1; 17) completely outclassed the 43-year-old Liakhovich (27-8; 17) to score a 10th-round stoppage to win the vacant WBC International Silver title. – supersport.com
