Pope Francis appoints Rev. Fr Nkuah-Boateng as Bishop of Wiawso Diocese

Pope Francis has appointed Reverend Father Nkuah-Boateng, the administrator of St. Joseph’s Cathedral of Wiawso Diocese in the Western North Region as the new bishop of the diocese.

Rev. Fr Nkuah-Boateng who was also the Director of the Diocesan Pastoral and Formation Centre of the diocese and Diocesan Coordinator of Justice and Peace Commission until his appointment, takes over from Most Rev. Joseph Francis Essien who is currently on retirement.

His appointment was contained in a release from the Apostolic Nunciature by Most Rev Henryk M. Jagodzin’ski, the Apostolic Nuncio in Ghana.

The Secretary General of the Gha­na Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Rev. Fr Lazarus Anondee announced this at a press conference yesterday.

Rev. Fr Nkuah-Boateng was born May 6, 1968 at Sefwi Bo­somoiso near Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region of Ghana.

He attended primary and middle schools at Bosomoiso Roman Catholic Primary and at Bosomoi­so DC Middle School, all at Sefwi Bosomoiso near Sefwi Wiawso.

The new Bishop holds West Af­rica Examination Council School Certificate (O’ Level) and Ad­vanced Level Certificate (A’ Level), all from Saint Teresa’s Minor Seminary, Amisano, Elmina – 1985 to 1993.

He studied Spiritual and Philosophy at St. Paul’s Catholic Seminary in Accra and Theology at St. Peter’s Regional Seminary in Cape Coast, from 1990-1999. He was ordained priest in 2001.

Rev. Fr Nkuah-Boateng holds a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) Degree in Conflict, Human Rights and Peace Studies from the Uni­versity of Education, Winneba – 2018-2020.

He holds Master’s Degree in Pastoral Ministry and Religious Education from the Catholic University College at Fiapre in Sunyani, 2015 to 2017.

Rev. Fr Nkuah-Boateng has Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast, 1998-2000 and he as well holds Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree in Sociology and Study of Religion from the University of Ghana, Legon 1994-1998.

He also holds the following Certificates: Certificate of Participation on Child Pro­tection for Pastoral Workers at St. Kizito Pastoral Centre, Apowa-Takoradi – 2016; Certificate of Completion of the Professional Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) at the Marian Conflict Resolution Centre at the Catholic Univer­sity College of Ghana, Sunyani – 2015. He was Assistant Parish Priest at Immaculate Conception Parish, Enchi, 2001-2002, teacher in Kobri School Complex, and Sefwi Wiaso Senior High School at Sefwi Wiawso, 2000-2001.

He was the Secretary to the Catholic Bishop of Wiawso and at the same time rector of St. Mary Rectorate at Sefwi Dwinase, 2003-2008, Parish Priest of St. Augustine Parish, Sefwi Boako, 2009-2011.
