Policeman who allegedly freed convicted woman for sex remanded

The Cape Coast Magistrate Court has remanded a policeman who reportedly had sex with a female suspect being held in police cells.

Lance Corporal Isaac Apomah, 36, on Saturday allegedly released, suspect, Theresa Forson, 29, in exchange for sex.

Theresa had earlier been convicted in a theft case and was in police custody at the Nkanfoa Police Station awaiting sentencing.

L/Cpl Apomah, who made his first appearance before the court on Monday, was charged with rape and aiding the escape of a convict.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Daniel Mensah told the court that accused was the station officer at the Nkanfoa Police Station on September 25, 2021.

Prosecution indicated that around midnight, L/Cpl Apomah sent four sachets of local alcoholic drink, ‘Abe Nsuo’, also called “One Show”, to the station, and gave Theresa, who was at the time, a convict on remand at the station, two sachets of ‘One Show’, which she drank.

ASP Mensah told the court that around 3:00am, L/CplApomah, in a conversation with Theresa, said the detective handling her case was troublesome and that he could help her escape if she allow him to have sex with her.

He said Theresa agreed to the deal and had sexual intercourse with L/CplApomah, after which he opened the cells for her to bath.

“L/cplApomah gathered Ms Forson’s items, which were in police custody, including a mobile phone, and kept them at the entrance of the police station and signaled her to run away,” ASP Mensah said.

He said having gained her ‘freedom’, Ms Forson went to her father-in-law and narrated the incident to him.

ASP Mensah said the father-in-law took Ms Forson to the Bakaano Police Station and reported the case.

He said Theresa was re-arrested and handed over to the Kotokuraba Police for investigations, while L/cplApomah was remanded to re-appear on October 12, 2021. – myjoyonline.com
