Police probe death of mother, son at Poano

The police at Anwiankwanta, in the Bekwai Municipality, are investigating the death of a mother and son, whose bodies were found in a room at Poano.

The almost decomposed bodies of Afia Duruwaah 25, and her seven-year-old son, Akwasi Twum, were discovered in their room after co-tenants smelt a strong odour coming from the room.

The co-tenants informed the assembly member of the community, who reported the matter to the police.

When the door to the room was forced open, the bodies were found in a pool of blood on a bed.

A police source told the Ghana News Agency that the police found that cutlass wound was inflicted on the neck of the boy.

The police retrieved a cutlass suspected to have been used to cut the boy.

No arrests have been made yet, but the police have begun investigations, while the bodies of the mother and son have been deposited at the Bekwai Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

In another development, the police have arrested the parents of a two-month-old baby, who was found dead in the room at Anwiankwanta.

The baby was said to be sleeping in the room with four other children and was found dead the following morning.

The police had granted bail to the four children, but are keeping the parents in custody for interrogation. — GNA
