Police kill 3 suspected robbers, arrest 2 accomplices

Police on Monday killed three suspected armed robbers and arrested two accomplices in a shootout, at Opeibea, near the Kotoka International Airport, Accra.

The bodies of the three robbers, identified as Akika Christian Roberts, Alhassan and Alhaji have been deposited at the Police Hospital Morgue for autopsy.

The accomplices, Abdul Latif, 47, and Prosper Koku, 27, were in police custody assisting in investigations.

A statement signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwesi Ofori, acting Director-General, Public Affairs Unit of the Accra Regional Police Command, said the gang planned to attack and rob a businessman, who was to withdraw money from a bank in the Airport area.

It said the police tracked the robbers, but when they (robbers) showed up, Robert, who was armed with a foreign pistol shot and wounded a policeman, but he “succumbed to police firing power.”

ACP Ofori said the policeman, who sustained gunshot wounds in the right leg was receiving medical attention and in stable condition.

The statement said the police had retrieved the foreign pistol loaded with 27 rounds of ammunition and gave the assurance that the police would deal with armed robbery and ensure law and order. – GNA
